Scientist synopsis: This is the show where Noel Gallagher slammed Chris Martin after bringing up a few anti-war comments during the show.

Quotes:

"We were trying to say that there is an alternative, that you can try to be catchy without being slick, poppy without being pop, and you can be uplifting without being pompous. Because we're sometimes playing quieter stuff, it's hard to sound like we're trying to change things, but we wanted to be a reaction against soulless rubbish."

Chris Martin, Coldplay.

"Anyone in our position has a certain responsibility," explains Guy. "Odd though it may seem to us, a lot of people read what we are saying, see us on TV, buy our records and read the sleeves and that can be a great platform. You can make people aware of issues. It isn't very much effort for us at all, but if it can help people, then we want to do it."

Guy Berryman, Coldplay

NME review:

COLDPLAY FANS STAND BY THEIR BAND

COLDPLAY singer CHRIS MARTIN asked the crowd at LONDON's ROYAL ALBERT HALL to "sing against the war" at last night's (March 24) TEENAGE CANCER TRUST concert.

The band received a rousing response to their 15-song set when the whole audience rose to its feet to sing during ''Everything's Not Lost' 'Yellow' and 'In My Place'. Martin even played a verse of, in his opinion, "the best song around", Oasis' 'Songbird', at the end of 'Everything's Not Lost', and sang the chorus of Tatu's chart-topper 'All The Things She Said' during 'In My Place'. During 'Everything's Not Lost', Martin galvanised the audience to its feet by asking them to let go of their inhibitions and sing along. Martin said: "Most of us here are English and everyone has got a fear of singing in public, tonight abandon your Englishness and you can feel the sound of the song. Sing against the war, pop music and Simon Cowell and all that shit."

Earlier in the set, Martin made another subtle criticism of the war in Iraq, changing the lyrics to 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', singing, "Buy a gun and start a meaningless war".

I went to the show last night at the RAH and I enjoyed it sooo much! It was my first proper concert I've ever been to so as you can imagine I was happy it was to be such a good band! Firstly, I was disgusted at the amount of touting going on. I got there an hour before the doors opened and was instantly approached by someone offering me tickets! The supporting act was Richard Hayden or something like that. He wasn't bad but stayed on for quite a while and it got a wee bit boring. When the lights went down and I could see the band coming on I must admit my adrenalin and excitement peaked I don't like Politik very much on the whole but as a gig opener it was amazing! They played many of the best songs and some b-sides/new tracks etc. I hadn't heard before. I was very disappointed that they didn't play Shiver or Amsterdam. Oh and also, there wasn't too much war talk from Chris apart from a tweaked line in A Rush of Blood to the Head. He said 'I'm gonna buy a gun to start a needless war' .

Just to add to all that's been said: I was there too and it was my first EVER gig! I was very impressed with the concert, the boys rocked it good and proper! There were some really funny people in the row in front of me drinking lots and lots of champagne ending the night a wee bit tipsy! One of them was really drunk but looked like 13 or something!! I was very disappointed they didn't play Shiver but I got over it cos of all the amazing songs they DID play!

the jumping over the piano thing was definately super human. chris dedicated one song to this person called kate and then when me and my friend went outside we saw her with her t-shirt signed and evertything! The concert was sooo brilliant but one thing that i was increadibly annoyed about was that loads of people were taking pictures and some people were recording it on camera and i was strictly told that no-one was allowed to and if they were caught the stuff would be confiscated?

One word....no two actually... FUCKING AMAZING!!
I am knackered so won't go into detail too much tonight but wow!!!! Got there early coz had to pick up my tickets but none of the doors were open so I hung around (with about 6 others) by the "artists entrance" Hi Aaron Anyway, we were just chatting and Guy appeared... looking extemely sexy as usual I might add..... I am such a twat that I forgot to take a camera and anything to sign but I did have a pen and my mummy (bless) had a piece of paper, so got his autograph before he jumped in a cab and went god knows where.... Not long after that Will came out of one door inside and preceded to attempt to make a phone call.... one of the girls standing with me said "Will can you just come out for a second" and he said "sure but it will have to be quick" so got his autograph. awwwww he's such a lovely bloke but you already know that Anyway after hanging around a bit longer hoping and praying that Jonny and Chris would come out we gave up and went to get the tickets and go to our seats. Richard Hawley and his band were the support and they were ok, a bit monotonous (sp?) but he was very funny, he made me laugh quite a few times.... then again he's not there to be a comedian At long last (cutting a long story short - too late) Coldplay came on stage to massive cheers etc etc...

There were loads of funny chatty parts but I have forgotten them at the mo, hopefully they will come back to me. One thing I do remember is before ENL Chris said "this is for nicky" and eventhough I'm 99% certain it wasn't me I still have a glimmer of hope that it was

Oh yeah, just one VERY amusing point I must tell you.... there was a certain "young lady" sitting in the row in front of me just to the right....a certain Miss Gwyneth Paltrow and all I can say is that she is very beautiful but looks about 12 We were walking out behind her and she turned round and looked right at me which was strange but you know...... I must admit I thought if I ever saw her I'd have to trip her up or something but I didn't hehehe,

I loved it when he sang a bit of Tatus 'all the things she says' (or whatever it's called) in the middle of In my Place... hahahaha.. he was on top funny form...and before Yellow I think, he asked everyone to sing along to their "only hit" and think about all the shit like Pop Idol and Simon Cowell or anything else we don't like...classic

Scientist synopsis: Check out the msg link to get a real good synopsis of the gig. The Maida Vale show was very amusing but only because of rather newbie fans and the hijacking of the show by the dj's. Still haven't heard the Zoe Ball XFM segment.
